West Penn wants changes to well water ordinance

West Penn Township continues to zero in on an ordinance that would regulate well drilling.

On a 2-1 vote, supervisors agreedlast week to have board solicitor Holly Heintzelman make changes to its well water ordinance. Supervisor Ted Bogosh was opposed. Before the vote, Bogosh said a copy of the ordinance didn't appear to be available to review for any changes.Heintzelman said she didn't believe the township has a current well water ordinance in place. The board would then look to adopt the ordinance at its Oct. 16 meeting.Supervisor Tony Prudenti said there has to be a way to tell when people are drilling wells in the township.Bogosh said it should state where the well is at, that it's a safe well, and that it's fit for human consumption.Prudenti said he believes the matter has dragged on long enough."Let's approve this thing and move on," Prudenti said.Under the ordinance, the township would have to be notified of any new wells, Heintzelman previously said.
