Palmerton powers past Pen Argyl

Palmerton's mantra this season has been the "Three F's".

Focus. Fundamentals. Fury.Bombers' head coach Chris Walkowiak and his staff preach to their players about the importance of each of the three facets of football. Early on in their Week 4 win, the Blue Bombers carried out that game plan effectively, en route to a 44-12 victory over Pen Argyl."I thought we executed pretty well on both sides of the ball tonight," Walkowiak said post-game. "We still have room for improvement, but it was a good overall team effort. The offensive and defensive lines, the skill guys ... everyone did their job."In fact, it took the winners 92 seconds to put together six plays that spanned 67 yards for the lead they would inevitably never relinquish to the Green Knights (0-4)."We talked to our guys about coming out and playing with passion and fury, focusing on things the entire game, and doing the fundamentals correctly," Walkowiak said. "We did that tonight and it showed early on."When Aaron Stasko raced 37 yards to pay dirt, it put his team up early, which he admitted was crucial."Coach always preaches the importance of the first quarter, and tonight, we came out and got that good start and it was huge for us," Stasko said. The Bombers recorded points on their first six possessions, and managed to build a 38-0 lead before halftime, yielding the mercy rule for the remainder of the contest.Jordan Nelson hauled in a 11-yard reception from Guedes for the second Bomber TD, and sophomore Andrew Sabo rattled off two of his three scores on the ensuing possessions."I want to credit the entire coaching staff for preparing our kids for this week's game," Walkowiak said. "Each of the players executed things very efficiently tonight, and we'll enjoy this win for about 24 hours, before going back to work for next week."The benches cleared midway through the third frame and the Green Knights tacked on consecutive late scores to get off the schnide. However, Palmerton improves to 3-1 and looks to utilize their momentum for next week's road trip to Bangor.WATCH WHAT YOU SA-BO ... Andrew Sabo had a great game for the winners, delivering effort on both sides of the ball, as he rushed nine times for 67 yards, scored three touchdowns (including a 34-yard pass from Guedes), and also compiled several tackles and a sack.MOST IMPRESSIVE ... The Bombers' Tekoah Guedes had another monster game, leading the winners with 96 rushing yards on 12 carries and a score, while converting 10 of 18 passes for 131 yards and two TDs.SHUTTING IT DOWN ... The brightest stat for Palmerton in Week 4 was arguably its defense, as the Bombers limited the Green Knights in the first half to very little offense. The visitors only had four first downs in the first half, and turned in 79 yards of total offense for the entire night.
