Lehighton man gets state time in W. Penn burglary

A Lehighton man who admitted to a Schuylkill County judge that he was among a group of people who burglarized a West Penn Township home will spend two years in state prison, but will also participate in a state Department of Corrections drug treatment program.

Cole R. Kerschner, 26, pleaded guilty Wednesday to burglary and other charges.Judge James P. Goodman also ordered Kerschner to pay $24,848 restitution to Peter Kropf Jr.Assistant District Attorney Kimm R. Montone prosecuted the case. Kerschner was represented by Matthew J. Rapa.West Penn Township police charged Kerschner with burglary, criminal trespass, criminal mischief and 15 counts each theft by unlawful taking of receiving stolen property.However, seven of the counts each of theft and receiving stolen property were withdrawn.According to police, Kerschner, along with Kendra L. Crostley, 24, of Palmerton; Willis E. Negron, 36, of Tamaqua; and Kayla M. Smith, 26, also known as Kayla Crostley, of Palmerton; entered Kropf's home through a window, and stole several guns, a coin collection, and jewelry in the early morning hours of Aug. 28, 2016.Crostley also pleaded guilty, and on Aug. 17 was sentenced by Judge Cryus Palmer Dolbin to 16 to 32 months in state prison.Negron, who is in Carbon County prison, has yet to be resolved, and a bench warrant has been issued for Smith.
