Summer concerts
The Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce continues its 11th Annual Summer Concert Series this Thursday with an appearance by the Christopher Dean Band, sponsored by Schuylkill County District Attorney Christine Holman.Concerts are held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on select Thursdays throughout the summer months with all events to be held on the platform of the Tamaqua Train Station.The final concert will be held on Sept. 17, featuring It Takes Two, sponsored by Cal's Tire and Auto.Tamaqua seniorsThe Tamaqua Senior Citizens met Aug. 17 with 52 members in attendance. President Melody Weicker conducted the business session and provided the inspirational reading "You're Always There."Grace Sakusky was added to the sick list.Janine Holter of the state attorney general's office was the guest speaker and spoke about scams and how to avoid them. The most common scams include: bank fraud, sweetheart swindles, investments, front door fraud, medical alert systems, charity solicitations, impersonating a government or banking official, health care, sweepstakes and family scams. She said to think of it as scam stands for sudden contact, act now, money needed.The group is open to anyone 55 or older. Meetings are held at 1 p.m. Thursdays at the Tamaqua YMCA, 1201 E. Broad St. The Aug. 24 meeting will include the celebration of July and August birthdays.TEPTOThe Tamaqua Elementary Parent-Teacher Organization will hold its first meeting of the 2017-18 school year on Sept. 12. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the school library.Room parents will be selected and plans for the coming year, including fundraisers, will be discussed.Any adult interested in supporting the students is welcome.Bethany ECThe Rev.
