Tamaqua police round up drug suspects
Monday was warrant day for the Tamaqua Police Department. Officers met with limited success as they attempted to take 11 people into custody on drug related and other warrants.
One suspect, Nancy Cole, 55, of Bowe Street, Tamaqua, was wanted on charges of possession of heroin, possession with intent to deliver, delivery of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and criminal use of a communications facility.She was easy to find as agents from Schuylkill County Adult Probation picked her up last month on a parole violation. She was on parole in connection with an Aug. 18, 2016, case where she was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance and a single count of possession of drug paraphernalia.Cole pleaded guilty to those charges on July 12 and was sentenced to 6 to 16 months on each of the controlled substance charges and 12 months on the paraphernalia charge. All of the sentences will run concurrently.She is currently in the Lackawanna County Prison, Scranton, awaiting arraignment on the new charges.Brian K. Woods, of West Rowe Street, Tamaqua, was picked up on charges of two counts of possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine/heroin, delivery of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance and criminal use of a communication facility.Woods is charged in connection with two drug sales, one on April 19 and again on April 26.He was arraigned before District Magisterial Judge Stephen Bayer, Tamaqua, Monday morning, who set bail at $25,000 straight cash on each set of charges.Unable to post bail he was taken to the Schuylkill County Prison in Pottsville.Also picked up was Lisa Cope, 52, of Tamaqua, who was wanted on multiple outstanding warrants, including one for possession of drug paraphernalia and charges related to the theft of tip jar from Pieracini’s Market on June 22.Judge Bayer set bail at $1.000 straight, sending Cope to the county prison.Suspects who managed to evade police include:Noe Rafael Pena-Cruz, 26, of Hazleton, is wanted on charges of possession of heroin, possession with intent to deliver, delivery of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and criminal use of a communications facility. the charges stem from a July 18 drug buy;Norman Thomas Jr., 20, of Tamaqua, is wanted on charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession with intent to deliver, delivery of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and criminal use of a communications facility;Jason Hill, 27, of Tamaqua, is wanted on charges of charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession with intent to deliver, delivery of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and criminal use of a communications facility;People wanted on misdemeanor warrants, include: Gregory Macalush, Ralph Winterburn, Andrew Bensinger, Mark Yatsko, all of Tamaqua, and Tammy Yatsko of Pottsville.Also assisting in Monday morning’s round up were agents from the county’s district attorney’s office, adult probation and state parole office, along with officers from the Rush Township and Frackville police.Anyone with information on any of the suspects is asked to call Tamaqua police at 570-668-5000 or 570-668-6100.
