Games suspended by rain

Both the Tamaqua Little League and Northern Valley Connie Mack baseball teams had their postseason tournament games suspended by rain on Monday.

LITTLE LEAGUERICHBORO - The Section 6 9-11-year-old Little League championship game between Tamaqua and Lehigh was suspended with the score tied 2-2 in the bottom of the second inning Monday night due to severe weather in the area.Tamaqua took the lead in the top of the first inning when Blaise Gigli's RBI single scored Cooper Ansbach, who drew a one-out walk. Zander Coleman later scored on an error to put Tamaqua ahead 2-0. Coleman reached with a two-out single.Lehigh answered in the bottom of the second when Jacob Rivera's RBI groundout brought in leadoff hitter Luke Appleman, who opened the inning with a four-pitch walk. Bryant Sedlock, who singled and advanced to third on Rivera's groundout, tied the game for Lehigh when he scored on a wild pitch.Players were pulled off the field when lightning was spotted at 7:18 p.m. with one out in the bottom of the second inning with Nick Zumas batting for Lehigh with a full count and and Miguel Diaz Rivera at first base after a one-out single.The game will resume Tuesday at 5 p.m. Both teams have one loss in the double-elimination tournament. The winner will advance to the state tournament on Friday in Bethlehem.CONNIE MACKLIMEPORT - Constant thunder and torrential rains suspended play in Northern Valley's Connie Mack State Tournament game against Bethlehem Catholic Monday night at Limeport Stadium.The game was tied 2-2 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning with Bethlehem Catholic coming to bat. Umpires halted the game when rumbles of thunder began, resulting into an automatic 30-minute wait. Approximately 30 minutes later with thunder continuing, windswept rains began and tournament officials determined field conditions couldn't be restored during the evening that featured a game between Catasauqua and Coplay to follow.Northern Valley tied the game in the top of the fourth on Derek Holmes' RBI double to center that scored Ryan King, who had an infield single. Nic Beers followed with a single to left to score Holmes.The game will resume at 5 p.m. today. The loser of the game will be knocked out of the double-elimination tournament. The winner will play Thursday at 5 p.m.
