An 8-year-old girl died on Saturday night when the all terrain vehicle she was a passenger on flipped over along a railroad bed in Schuylkill County.
State police at Schuylkill Haven said the crash occurred at 9:18 p.m. along a railroad bed about three-quarters of a mile from Berne Road in South Manheim Township.Schuylkill County Coroner David J. Moylan III identified the victim as Lynsey Marie Ernst, of Auburn. Although troopers did not identify her father, the operator of the 2009 Polaris XP850 ATV, he was identified as Paul James Ernst, 38, of Auburn. He was flown to the Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, where he was admitted in critical condition.According to troopers Ernst was operating the ATV along the railroad bed when it struck a telephone pole that was laid across the bed. The ATV then flipped over at least one time. Neither the young girl or her father were wearing a helmet.The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by deputy coroner Albert Barnes.
