Crash on I-81 causes fuel spill

A crash along Interstate 81 in New Castle Township, Schuylkill County, resulted in a fuel spill and charges being filed. State police at Frackville said the crash occurred at 7:30 p.m. June 21.

Troopers said Erik A. Hultquist, 31, of Coopersburg, Lehigh County, was driving a 2003 Ford F150 pickup truck southbound in the right lane when a roadwork sign he was hauling blew loose. A section of the sign's metal frame fell to the road when a 2013 Volvo truck-tractor, operated by Rasul R. Dursunov, 26, of Missouri City, Texas, ran over the metal framework. One of the Volvo's saddlebag diesel fuel tanks ruptured causing between 200 and 250 gallons of fuel to leak onto the roadway and the right shoulder.Troopers said Hultquist initially stopped to help with cleanup, but then left the scene without providing any required information. Hultquist and his passenger, Kevin J. Steinbrenner, 55, of Wapwallopen, Luzerne County, Dursunov and his passenger, Rustam A. Dursunov, also of Missiiouri City, were all not injured.Area fire companies responded to the scene and completed the cleanup of the spill.Troopers said Hultquist is facing charges for the incident.
