Safe Sitter Babysitting Course at BMHS

Blue Mountain Health System will offer a Safe Sitter course for teens 11 and up from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 23 in the education classroom at the Gnaden Campus, 211 N. 12th St. in Lehighton. Registration deadline is June 12.

The goal of Safe Sitter is to reduce the number of avoidable and unintentional deaths among children being cared for by baby sitters. Over 650,000 adolescent baby sitters across the country have been trained by Safe Sitter to handle life threatening emergencies.The class is taught by trained Safe Sitter instructors. Students will receive hands-on practice in basic lifesaving techniques so they are prepared to act in a crisis. In addition they will learn skills in safety, child care, rescue and life & business and tips that will make them more confident caregivers.To successfully complete the Safe Sitter program, students must pass a rigorous practical and written test to show that they have mastered the key concepts and have the skills necessary to handle an emergency.The cost is $36 and includes the student handbook, a Safe Sitter drawstring bag, bandage dispenser, LED flashlight, important information notepad, completion card, snacks and lunch.Space is limited and registration and prepayment are required.
