Nesquehoning:The Memorial Day weekend will kick off for the Nesquehoning VFW Post 8008 and Auxiliary with a joint installation of officers at 7

p.m.at the post home. All officers are requested to be present.SaturdayNesquehoning:The VFW will be hosting a special dinner in honor of members of the Fred Knauf family, who is coming in for Memorial Day celebrations in honor of the 75th anniversary of Knauf's death.SundayCoaldale: State Sen. David Argall, will be the featured speaker at the Coaldale Memorial Day services to be held on Sunday. The first service will be held at the Seek Veterans Memorial at 1 p.m.; followed by a service at the Coaldale Veterans memorial at 2:30 p.m. The Panther Valley High School Junior ROTC will provide flag and military services and honors. The Panther Valley High School band, under the direction of Mark Christ, will provide patriotic musical interludes. Students from Panther Valley schools will participate in the program with recitations of President Lincoln's Gettysburg Address and Logan's General Order establishing Memorial Day.• William Gaddes will give a few remarks regarding the dedication of a specially carved granite angel; dedicated in memory of Coaldale's 57 Gold Star mothers and Miss Faye Ruth Lewis, educator, philanthropist, and citizen/patriot. The services are sponsored by the Coaldale United Veterans Organization. Michael Vigoda, a member of Coaldale VFW Post 6982 will be master of ceremonies. After the ceremonies, the Coaldale VFW and American Legion Posts will have open houses with food and refreshments. All are invited.Jim Thorpe: Dolon-Jones-Martino American Legion Post 304 hosts Memorial Day services at the following monuments, cemeteries and churches with a short program consisting of the placement of a wreath, prayer, rifle salute and taps. Participants will meet at the Legion post at 8 a.m.• West Side: 8:30 a.m., Vietnam Monument; 8:50 a.m., Civil War/WWII Monument; 9:05 a.m., Korean War Monument; 9:20 a.m., Liberties Monument; 9:35 a.m., Route 903 bridge.• East Side: 10 a.m., Christman's Cemetery. Remarks made by John Marchione; 10:30 a.m., Hennings Cemetery; 11 a.m., Hickory Run State Park Cemetery; 11:15 a.m., St. Paul's Church, Albrightsville. Remarks by Marchione.; noon, WWI Monument; 12:15 p.m., WWII Monument.Nesquehoning:The outlying cemeteries will be visited by a contingent of the VFW, American Legion, the UVO and the auxiliary. At each location a prayer will be offered, followed by a salute from the firing squad.• Meet at the VFW at 11:30 a.m. Departure is at noon. The group and Knauf family will visit the Knauf memorial on the Broad Mountain, followed by all the cemeteries at the east end of Nesquehoning, and the bridge over the creek at Mermon Avenue. Members will continue to New Columbus to visit the Grotto and St. Therese's Shrine, followed by The Gate of Heaven cemetery. The final stop will the Hauto Memorial by the Hauto Fire Company.Slatington: The Slatington American Legion Post 16 will have their memorial services on outlying cemeteries, leaving the post home at 8

a.m.Sunday. The schedule of visiting cemeteries are as follows: Williamstown Cemetery, 8:10 a.m.; Jacksonville Cemetery, 8:40 a.m.; New Tripoli

U.C.C., 9:15 a.m.; Heidelberg

U.C.C., 9:45 a.m.; Neff's Lutheran Cemetery, 10:15 a.m.; 7th Street Catholic, 10:45 a.m.; Union Cemetery at Allen O. Delke Grave, 11 a.m.; Friedens Cemetery, 11:15 a.m.; Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 11:45 a.m.; and Slatington Veterans Memorial Main and Second streets, 12:05 p.m. Then return to post home for lunch. Legionaries, Auxiliary, Son of American Legion and Legion Riders are invited to attend.Polk Township: The 20th Memorial Day event will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Veterans Memorial in Kresgeville. This year's event will include a roll call of names to be remembered and flowers given to family members. Please call 610-681-5376 with names of current military members who will be attending the event.MondayEldred Township: Residents are invited to join in honoring its veterans at an 11 a.m. program Mondayat the Eldred Township Veterans Memorial at the Municipal Building, 490 Kunkletown Road, in Kunkletown.Gilbert: Memorial Day services including guest speakers will be held at 11 a.m. at the American Legion Post 927 in Gilbert by the Army tank out front. A light lunch will follow.Jim Thorpe: Participants will meet at the Dolon-Jones-Martino American Legion Post 304 at 7:45 a.m. Memorial Day services will be conducted at the following cemeteries: 8:15 a.m., Immaculate Conception; 8:45 a.m., Evergreen; 9:10 a.m., Saint Joseph's; 10 a.m., Mauch Chunk.Lansford: American Legion Post 123, services will begin at 9

a.m.at the veterans monument located at Kennedy Park. Carbon County Director of Veterans Affairs Henry Desrosiers will be guest speaker. The Legion will place flags on veterans' graves in the Summit Hill cemeteries before Memorial Day. Anyone whose graves might have been accidentally missed should contact the Legion. The Lansford Legion requests all residents to display the American flag on Memorial Day and try to attend the services at Kennedy Park on Memorial Day. All veterans, Sons of the Legion, Legion Girl Scouts, Brownies, Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, and anyone who is presently serving in the Armed Services are invited to take part in the program at Kennedy Park. The public is especially invited to attend.Nesquehoning:The annual Memorial Day Parade will form at 8

a.m.at the Nesquehoning Recreation Center on West Railroad Street and pull out at 8:30 a.m. The parade will stop at the VFW Monument at the intersection of routes 209 and 54 and the Lions Club Monument in St. Patrick's Cemetery, where a prayer and volley will follow. The parade will continue to the VFW on East Center Street, where the main service will be held. All Nesquehoning residents are requested to fly their flags for the weekend.Slatington: The legion will host the 97th Consecutive Memorial Day Parade and Services at the Fairview Cemetery in Slatington. The parade will start after 10 a.m. from Main and Second streets and proceed to the Fairview Cemetery. Services on the cemetery will start at 10:30 a.m. In case of inclement weather, the service will be held at the Slatington Baptist Church at 509 Main St. at 10:30 a.m. The public is invited to attend the parade and services.Summit Hill: Memorial services, Ludlow Park, 10 a.m.; parade, 11 a.m.Tamaqua: Parade, 10 a.m. Service, 11 a.m., Odd Fellows Cemetery.
