The Monroe County Historical Association will offer a free presentation on the history of the cannons at Courthouse Square in downtown Stroudsburg at 7 p.m. Wednesdayat the Stroud Mansion, 900 Main St., Stroudsburg.

The speaker will be Jim Werkheiser who, for years, wondered why Monroe County was the only county in the entire Union with no monument or recognition of the Civil War. Through in-depth research, he was able to uncover the history behind the cannons.The presentation is free, but due to limited space, reservations are required. Light refreshments will be served.
