A Summit Hill man is charged with stealing a handgun and money.
Charles William Nace, 20, of East White Street, was charged by Summit Hill police for thefts that occurred in the borough on two occasions in February. He faces two counts each of burglary, theft by unlawful taking and criminal trespass.According to the affidavit of probable cause, borough police were called to a residence on Feb. 4 and 21.In the first incident, the victim reported that he discovered a backpack missing from his home. Inside the bag was a handgun. The resident also said that items were moved around his home as well and an unknown amount of money was missing.The victim then installed motion activated security cameras at the suggestion of police.On Feb. 21, the victim again contacted police to report that money had been taken from his home.Upon checking the security cameras, police were able to identify the suspect as Nace.Two days later, police interviewed Nace and he waived his right and agreed to speak about the thefts.He denied stealing the backpack and handgun, but admitted entering the victim's residence on two separate occasions and took money.A warrant for Nace's arrest was issued and he was taken into custody on April 28.He was arraigned before District Judge Casimir Kosciolek, who set bail at $50,000.He was then taken to Carbon County Correctional Facility.Nace now faces a preliminary hearing before Kosciolek on May 10.
