"After our fall production of '1984,' we wanted a comedy that would be a little lighter in tone and that would include upbeat and catchy songs. We were also looking for a show that would allow us to do something we never had before. Working with the four different puppets that are used to bring Audrey II to life onstage has been both difficult and incredibly fun. We are incredibly excited to show our audience this production."In the story of the musical, creatures from outer space invaded our galaxy intent on world domination. Some of them took the form of plants. Seymour purchased one of the plants and brought it back to Mushnik florists shop on Skid Row where he worked. He tended the plant and lovingly naming it Audrey II after his fellow assistant, Audrey.Audrey II proves to be a draw in the shop which starts to attract many visitors. The major problem, however, is that Audrey II's food happens to be fresh blood. As the plant starts to grow, so does its appetite and its demands.Audrey has a sadistic boyfriend, a dentist named Orin, who regularly appeases his sadistic desires on Audrey, who realizes that she really does have a friend in Seymour.Seymour has been feeding Audrey II with his own blood but is gradually growing weaker as the plant's appetite increases. In exchange for fresh blood, Audrey II says it will grant Seymour's heart's desire. He wants to wrest Audrey away from the abusive Orin. Orin accidentally suffocates himself with laughing gas and is subsequently fed to Audrey II, who grows even larger. Will Audrey II be successful? You'll have to attend the show to find out.Auditions for Little Shop of Horrors were held in late December and rehearsals began in early January. The students have been at rehearsal Monday, Wednesday and Friday since then and have been in on Saturday mornings since February."I hope that the students gain a new appreciation for working with special effects and puppets on stage," Harris said."Interacting with the props for this show has been unlike anything we have ever done before. I also hope that they gain an appreciation for ensemble shows like this one, which has multiple characters that require a great deal of commitment from our actors. They have put a tremendous amount of work in this year and have worked incredibly well as a team in bringing the show together."Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and will be available at the door. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Refreshments will be provided by Future Business Leaders of America during intermission.
