Carbon County court - drug cases
A total of six defendants entered guilty pleas Friday in Carbon County court to drug charges.
Judge Joseph J. Matika accepted pleas from the following:Jamie Ann Stevens, 36, of Lansford, pleaded to one count each of possession of a controlled substance - heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia and criminal conspiracy - retail theft.She was arrested on Feb. 22, 2016, by Mahoning Township police at the Walmart store. At the time she was caught participating in retail theft, she had her daughter in the cart where she had placed the stolen items upon exiting the store.On the two drug counts, Matika placed her on probation for a year, with the terms running concurrently; and on the conspiracy count a fine of $100 and restitution of $24.68 to Walmart, which is her share as there is a co-defendant the case. She must also get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow all recommendations for treatment, render 50 hours of community service and stay out of the Walmart store.Christopher Jon Schnell Jr., 20, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested on May 22, 2015, by Mahoning Township police following a traffic stop along Route 443. He was previously placed in the Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program but was revoked for violating conditions.Matika placed him on probation for a year and ordered him to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and render 50 hours of community service.Marc Thomas Muffley, 34, of Lansford, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested on Dec. 30by Lansford police in the area of 30 E. Abbott St. In a plea bargain, a charge of simple assault was dropped. Police originally responded to a report of an out-of-control man in a residence.Matika placed him on probation for six months and ordered him to render 25 hours of community service.Nicholas Mark Haspe, 36, of Lansford, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested on March 31at the intersection of routes 209 and 93 by Nesquehoning police, following a traffic stop.He was placed on probation for a year and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use.Steven Kerry Koch Jr., 34, of White Haven, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested on March 28,by Weatherly police along West Main Street following a traffic stop.He was placed on probation for a year and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation, zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use and render 50 hours of community service.James Joseph Simmons, 25, of Weatherly, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested on Nov. 25, 2014, along Broad Street by Beaver Meadows police following a traffic stop. Heroin was found in the vehicle. A charge of possession of a controlled substance was dropped in a plea bargain. He was previously placed in the ARD program but revoked for violating conditions.He was placed on probation for a year and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation, zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use and render 50 hours of community service.Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
