Mase seeks re-election as Lehighton mayor

Mayor Thomas Mase is proud to be the Mayor of Lehighton and is seeking re-election. Mase is an Army veteran who was born and raised in Lehighton, a 1955 graduate of Lehighton High School. He has 27 years of police experience, ending his career as chief of police of Jim Thorpe and is a member of the Fraternal Order of Police.

During his tenure as mayor, he has strengthened the police department, growing it from an eight-man force to a 10-man full-time force. All patrol vehicles were equipped with modern computer systems, such as TraCS, which allows officers to do traffic citations in the vehicle.All cars were equipped with upgraded ARs, and older sedans were replaced with SUVs. In addition, protective gear was purchased for the officers.Upgrades to the police station include camera surveillance internally and externally, a new training center, and locker room facilities.The police department is now community service oriented as Mase partnered with National Night Out, the tree in the park program at Christmas.The department also implemented a medicine return box, which has collected more than 200 pounds of returned medicine.The Public Service Department has been realigned to make it more efficient and brought safety issues up to standard, ensuring public safety and taxpayer efficiency.The fire department acquired a new pumper.He works alongside the Carbon County Chamber to bring new businesses into the community.The process of improving all parks within the borough began last year. Accomplishing all of this without an increase in taxes.Mase has enjoyed interacting with the local veterans, participating in their services, purchasing the first poppy from the local poppy queen.He is always impressed with the youth of Lehighton when he presents a proclamation from the borough to the now more than 10 Eagle Scouts or participates with the middle school children at the Arbor Day ceremony.He prides himself in the follow-up of all concerns brought to him by the residents of Lehighton and his relationship with borough council and the borough manager to accomplish what is best for Lehighton.
