A dreadful winter ending

Dear Editor:

Mother Nature must have crazily been imbibing vodka or bourbon whiskey since she's all screwed up, dumping tons of snowfall upon the eastern seaboard only a few days away from springtime. We've enjoyed the pleasant, mild winter and were actually spoiled. The snowstorms we did experience were very light, nothing to become alarmed about. Obviously it was too good to last, because the week of March 13 brought the blizzard to end all snowstorms. Just as we thought winter storms were ended and spring was beginning to materialize … man oh man, the region was plagued with a horrendous snowfall that crippled the entire state. We were warned in advance that a terrific blizzard was due to cover our region. It arrived with a discouraging force. On Tuesday, March 14, the area was at a standstill. Nothing was moving - life was like a dead end. All business places were closed, very few autos or any traffic was able to move. If a vehicle wasn't garage-kept, you couldn't find it. It was a huge heap of snow. The folks in Florida were experiencing temperature in the 80s. My friends out California-way informed me it was also in the 80s. And here in the coal regions we had to contend with 12 degrees. Does anyone desire to accompany me on a journey to Florida?Even the birds are smarter than people by flying south for the winter. Some people are predicting we'll have a white Easter at the rate Mother Nature is acting up. I wouldn't make any wager on such a drastic outlook. But many seasons ago were known to have a snowbound Easter. We'll not forget the crippling storm called Stella. She's been a nasty old girl, but then, we've experienced far worse snowstorms, as they say, in the old days. Hopefully the blizzard of March 2017 is the climax of our winter finale.Happy springtime and God bless America.Earle E. StahlerWest Penn Township
