Palmerton to hold kindergarten registration

Palmerton Area School District will hold its kindergarten registration for the 2017-18 school year from March 27-29.

All Kindergarten registrations will take place in the district offices, which are located on the third floor of Parkside Education Center, 680 Fourth St., Palmerton.Kindergarten students registering for 2017-18 will be the first in the district to receive full-day instruction.Parents or guardians are asked to schedule an appointment to register a child by calling Kimberly Ottinger at 610-826-7101, ext. 5023.Appointment times will be scheduled 8:30-11 a.m. and 12:30- 2:45 p.m. on March 27-29.Children who will be five years of age on or before Sept. 1, 2017 are eligible for kindergarten for the 2017-18 school year, according to school district policy.The child must be present at the registration appointment for a vision screening and kindergarten readiness assessment.Parents or guardians are required to complete several forms prior to registration. They are available on the district website,

www.palmerton.org, or at the district office.Paperwork can be completed at the registration appointment or ahead of time.A state-issued birth certificate or other acceptable proof of age and name is required for registration.If those papers are not available at the time of registration, the child should still be registered and the documents must be provided before they will be admitted to school in August.In addition, a parent's photo identification as well as another proof of residency is required at the time of registration.State law requires children entering school for the first time have written proof of the following immunizations:*four doses of Tetanus, one dose on or before the child's fourth birthday*four doses of Diphtheria, one dose on or before the child's fourth birthday*three doses of Polio*two doses of Measles*two doses of Mumps*one dose of Rubella (German measles)*three doses of Hepatitis B*two doses of Varicella (chicken pox) or a record of having chicken pox.The immunization records must be provided at the registration appointment and proof must be provided before the child is admitted to school.
