Zion prepares for annual musical production

Zion United Church of Christ's Zion Opera Workshop in Lehighton is preparing for its 47th annual musical production.

The production, "Nice Work if You Can Get It," will take place at Zion UCC's Smith Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. March 2-4. There will also be a matinee performance at 2 p.m. March 4.The production will include a live orchestra, joining Lisa Schweitzer, ZOW's rehearsal and performance pianist. The orchestra features musicians from Lehighton and surrounding communities.Choreography for this show is designed and taught to the cast by Deb Strausberger, owner and operator of TNT Dance Studio in Lehighton.ZOW's technical director duo, husband and wife team Pati and Duane Reichard, are responsible for backdrop design, prop and set design and construction. Costuming for the show is a collaborative effort of Tina Becker, Nancy Keiser and Mary Reynolds.The show, set in the 1920s, is the story of charming and wealthy playboy Jimmy Winter, played by Chris Pavlick, who meets rough female bootlegger Billie Bendix, who is played by Tara Crowe, the weekend of his wedding.Jimmy, who has been married several times, is preparing to marry Eileen Evergreen, played by Jessica Schafer, a self-obsessed modern dancer.Thinking Jimmy and Eileen will be out of town, Billie and her bootlegger friends Duke, played by Noah Smith, and Cookie, played by Zachary Sestock, hide cases of alcohol in the basement of Jimmy's Long Island mansion. But when Jimmy, his wife-to-be and her Prohibitionist family show up at the mansion for the wedding, Billie and her cohorts pose as servants, causing high jinks galore.Other featured cast includes Sen. Max Evergreen (Brandon Cressley), Duchess Estonia Dulworth (Michelle Ebbert), Jeannie Muldoon (Casi Short), Millicent Winter (Karen Serfass) and Chief Berry (Adam Reichard).Chorus girls include Rosie (Amy Shelly), Midge (Becky Herd), Flo (Tina Becker), Olive (Lexi Young), Alice (Hailie Brosky) and Dottie (Laura Cressley). Other chorus girls include Kylie Kresge, Alyssa Bauder, Candace Malkowicz and Bethany Evans.A vice squad trio of men include Elliot (Antonio Lorenzo), Fletcher (Dylan Coffin), and Edgar (Calvin Maholick). Other vice squad members are Floyd (Michael Bongiorno), Vic (Aidan Malloy) and Slim (Ethan Malkowicz). Other vice squad singers and dancers include Alex Keck, Miguel Gonzalez, Eliza Asmann, Jazzmin Sicher and Kristin Campbell.Patrons and guests appearing in the show are Brittany Price, Autumn Williams, Aleigh Smith, Emily Shelly and Rhiannon Malarkey.Zion Opera Workshop is under the direction and supervision of Bradly R.
