Teen admits sex assault of unconscious girl

A former Tamaqua resident admitted in Carbon County court on Monday to having indecent contact with an unconscious female.

Devin Todd Moerder, 19, now of Northampton, pleaded to one count of indecent assault for an incident that occurred on Aug. 6, 2015, at a home in Penn Forest Township. President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II accepted the plea.State police at Fern Ridge said a then 16-year-old female reported she had been raped while at a party at a home along Saw Mill Lane.Troopers said the girl was intoxicated at the time of the incident and did not remember much of the details of the incident.Moerder was identified as a person involved and was interviewed.He admitted to the illegal sexual contact with the girl.The charge falls under the provisions of Megan's Law. Nanovic ordered Moerder to be evaluated by the state sexual assessment board to determine if he is a sexually violent predator. If it is determined he is, then he must register for life as a sexual offender.If not, the registration period is 15 years.Nanovic also ordered the adult probation office to prepare a presentence investigation report.
