Carbon County court - drug cases
A Carbon County man pleaded guilty to a drug dealing charge on Monday in Carbon County court. He was one of five defendants in pending drug-related cases to enter a plea before Judge Steven R. Serfass.
Palmerton incidentsChad Michael Derr, 40, of Palmerton, pleaded to one count each of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and endangering the welfare of a child.He was charged with the drug count for an incident on May 7 in the area of 939 Mauch Chunk Road by Palmerton police. He sold heroin to a confidential informant. He was originally charged with 13 drug counts.The endangering count occurred on July 3, 2016, in the 400 block of Alley G. Borough police found Derr's wife in the area with their daughter. When asked by police what she was doing in the area, she said she was waiting for her husband. Derr then left a residence and when confronted by police, he was found to have four baggies of crystal methamphetamine on him, which led to the endangering count because he had the drugs with his daughter present.Serfass deferred sentencing and ordered the adult probation office to prepare a presentence investigation report.Other pleasBrittany Michelle Vincent, 22, of Saylorsburg, pleaded to one count of possession of a controlled substance - heroin. She was arrested on April 14, 2016, by agents of state Attorney General's office as part of an undercover operation of heroin trafficking in the area. The investigation led to police getting a search warrant for Vincent's apartment at the Gypsy Hill Gardens in Lehighton. Heroin and other items were found in the residence.Serfass deferred sentencing and ordered a PSI. Vincent, who is facing a jail term, also will apply for the county's Intermediate Punishment Program - house arrest.Corey James Bosset, 25, of Mahanoy City, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested on Sept. 30, 2016, by Lehighton police in the 300 block of South Second Street following a vehicle stop. He was a passenger in the vehicle.Serfass placed him on probation for a year and ordered he get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment and render 50 hours of community service.David Francis Canham, 36, of Palmerton, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested on Aug. 13, 2016, when Palmerton police responded to 611½ Franklin Ave. for a reported threats incident. On scene officers learned that Canham allegedly threatened two people, however, a charge of terroristic threats was dropped in a plea bargain.Canham is currently an inmate in the county prison.Serfass deferred sentencing because Canham has another criminal matter pending.Kaliah Alejandria Santiago-Colon, 21, of Bethlehem, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia and a summary offense of driving under suspension. She was arrested on July 21, 2016, along Delaware Avenue by Palmerton police following a vehicle stop.She was placed on probation for a year and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and render 50 hours of community service.On the summary offense she was fined $200.Fails testPatricia Ann Derau, 42, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of furnishing drug free urine-attempting to give false urine test. She was charged by Jim Thorpe police for an incident on April 29, 2016, at the courthouse. She reported to the adult probation office for a scheduled urine screen and attempted to submit a fake urine sample.She was sentenced to time served (12 days) to 12 months in prison and ordered to get both drug and alcohol and mental health evaluations, zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use and render 50 hours of community service.Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
