Palmerton library holds art show
The Palmerton Area Library is hosting its 11th annual Art Show and Lunch from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday.
Each year, the show gets about 60 entries of paintings in oils, water colors and other mediums. Some of the pieces are for sale and some are just for show, said Diane Danielson, the director of the library. It’s up to the artist. This year, the library has something new.“We decided to have an auction,” she said.Danielson said some local families donated several framed prints by notable artists, one of whom is Andrew Wyeth. The benefactors didn’t want any money for the pictures, because they wanted the library to benefit from the sale, she said. That’s when the library staff came up with the idea of doing something different, something special with the art — an auction.Of the plethora of locally created artwork on display, the library will get 20 percent of the proceeds for each sale, and the artist will get 80 percent, as well as some publicity. Each artist can set his or her own price of the artwork, and can have a maximum of three pieces in the show, Danielson said. There are no fees to enter. Each artwork piece must be framed and ready to hang with a wire on the back. Information labels will be provided and should be placed on the back of the artwork. There is a $7 admission fee to the show, but it comes with lunch. Artists displaying their work are admitted for free.If anyone would like to participate in the art show, the artwork should be delivered to the library no later than noon on Thursday, Danielson said. The Art Show and Lunch is sponsored by the Friends of the Palmerton Area Library Association.
