2016 in review: Porn and sex cases round out year

John P. Klingaman, 38, of Summit Hill, faced over 200 counts related to the sexual assault of a teenage girl. He pleaded guilty to two corruption of minors counts, a felony 3 and a misdemeanor 1.

Klingaman threatened to kill the girl if she told anyone about the assaults. The charges came from Summit Hill Chief of Police Joseph J. Fittos and Lehighton Detective Scott T. Preboznyak.The incidents happened between Sept. 1, 2014, and Dec. 3, 2015.He forced the teen to smoke methamphetamine and then committed the sexual acts at least twice.Donald Gower, 60, supervisor of the Gower Funeral Home and Crematory Inc.; Randy Cramer, 49, a member of the Cramer Brothers Band; and Andrew Hylton, 33, an anesthesiologist provider contracted at Pocono Medical Center; and nine other men were charged with patronizing a prostitute.Three women were also arrested as part of the sting.The operation was set up in a Stroudsburg hotel.Undercover officers posted ads on an "adult entertainment" website as Becca and Alexis advertising sex in exchange for money.After several calls and texts to the "girls," many of the callers made arrangements to meet at the hotel. Two female undercover cops were in the hotel room instead. The arrest team made their move after the payment was made.Hector Rico, 34, an illegal immigrant living in Shenandoah when he committed the crimes, was convicted of repeatedly raping and impregnating a 12-year-old girl and was sentenced to 48 years in state prison.He will likely be deported upon release, according to Judge Jacqueline L. Russell.Rico claimed the child overpowered him. The girl was too tiny to give birth naturally, so she had to have a cesarean section, according to Russell.Rico did not express any remorse for his actions.Monsignor John Stephen Mraz, 66, was charged with sexual abuse of children and criminal use of communication facility, both felonies of the third degree; and obscene and other sexual materials and performance, a misdemeanor of the first degree.Mraz has ties to Marian High School, serving as vice principal and spiritual director. He was also a pastor at St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church in Emmaus and St. Bertha's Church in Tuscarora.Nude photos of males were found in his computer's recycle bin after Mraz requested a friend and parishionerto perform maintenance updates.The parishioner then reported the findings to the Diocese of Allentown.An analysis found that Mraz has actively searched the Internet looking for images and videos of underage males engaged in sex acts.Raymond Snyder, 62, of Slatington, was charged with 500 counts each of possession of child pornography and criminal use of a communication facility.County Detective Paul Iannace and Slatington Detective Timothy Wagner interviewed Snyder at his home on May 26. During the interview, Snyder admitted to downloaded images of naked children on his computer.Forensic analysis of Snyder's three desktop computers, two flash drives and external hard drive revealed that they contained approximately 1,000 images of prepubescent children, including some images that contained sexual acts.- Amanda J.
