Clymer, Farber, Dorn in semis

Caleb Clymer was never himself on the wrestling mat last season. After dealing with a broken hip for the majority of last winter, Clymer is back to his regular self a year later and the bounce in his step is noticeable on the mats.

Clymer is one of three Times News area wrestlers that advanced to this morning's semifinal round of the Bethlehem Holiday Wrestling Classic at Liberty's Memorial Gymnasium following a 5-2 decision over Liberty's Anthony Emig in Wednesday night's 160-pound quarterfinals.Clymer jumped out to a 5-0 lead over Emig before surrendering a late third period takedown, the only two-point move he gave up throughout the tourney so far. Nonetheless, Clymer knows there's things he has to work on, but he's just happy to be back on the mat."After last year, dealing with all the setbacks and not really being able to wrestle the way I like, I'm extremely happy to be back out here," said Clymer. "I felt good so far, but I'd like to get more movement on my feet. I know I have to up my game in the next match and if I want to win this, I have to wrestle better."Northwestern head coach Jim Moll is happy to have Clymer back to his old self, as he understands the potential in his scrappy junior."He's healthy for starters," Moll said. "He's a self-motivated kid and he works hard. He's tough and he loves competition like this going against tough kids. He's always trying to work with the best group in our room and he's showing what he can do."Northern Lehigh's Ryan Farber (160) and Pleasant Valley's Trevor Dorn (170) also reached the semifinals with victories Wednesday night, as Farber had little trouble dispatching Easton's Hayden Keleher following an 11-3 major decision, while Dorn slipped away from Luke Ratchford of LaSalle College 4-3.Farber took second at this tournament a year ago and is motivated to bounce back this time around with a gold medal."My goal coming into this was winning it and I still feel I'm on track for that," Farber said. "After losing last year, it definitely adds fuel to the fire to come back and win it this year."Farber will have a tough out on the bracket opposite of Clymer, as he'll face Pennridge's Josh Stillings, who has recorded two falls and a technical fall in his first three bouts.Clymer will meet a returning state champion from Wisconsin in Stoughton's Tyler Dow.Dow pinned both of his opponents before the second period of each bout.Dorn gets a meeting with Wilson West Lawn's Tommy O'Brien in today's semifinals.A Clymer-Farber final would be a dream matchup for both locals, but their paths are difficult."One thing you see from them [Stoughton wrestlers] is that they're physical and they are not afraid to hit you," said Clymer. "Even if they're up nine points, they'll try and hit you with a throw. They've been very tough from what I've seen."
