Driver flown from Route 100 crash

State police at the Fogelsville barracks said one person was injured and airlifted after a three-vehicle crash at 12:47 p.m. Tuesday on Route 100, about 164 feet south of Cozy Cove Road in Lowhill Township.

Police did not reveal the identities of the people involved in the crash, but said the injured person was flown by the PennStar helicopter to the St. Luke's Hospital, Fountain Hill.That person was driving a 2004 Volkswagen Passat south on Route 100 when the vehicle crossed over the double yellow line, striking a 2017 Freightliner that was headed north at the time. After the initial impact, the Volkswagen spun out of control and was struck on the passenger's side by a 2016 Mack CXU which was also traveling north at the time.Police said the Passat was heavily damaged and was towed from the scene. The operator needed to be extricated from it by emergency personnel, police said.They were assisted at the scene by the New Tripoli Fire Company, NOVA EMS and Lehigh County fire police.
