Pearl Harbor ceremony Wednesday in Lehighton

It’s been three-quarters of a century since the Pearl Harbor attack drew our country into World War II.

To commemorate this historic milestone, the Lehighton United Veterans Organization will host a Pearl Harbor Day Program at 12:48 p.m. Wednesday at the World War II Memorial on Stanley Hoffman Boulevard. The time marks the exact moment that the attack took place at Pearl Harbor, and would lead our country into what would prove to be the most destructive war in history.Harry J. Wynn III, Sr Vice Commander, 30th District American Legion, said the program is a way for the organization to acknowledge the great significance of the 75th anniversary of the event.“It obviously spring-boarded the United States of America into World War II,” Wynn said. “It certainly is a significant piece of history as we look back and see all the generations that followed World War II, and the greatest generation, that saved the country, saved the world. We want to commemorate their sacrifice and their fortitude and their winning World War II.”Wynn recounted a personal account of his visit to Pearl Harbor.“I’ve been at Pearl Harbor,” he said. “When you go by there, you really get a lump in the throat.”Borough Mayor Tom Mase and borough Manager Nicole Beckett will offer opening remarks.State Rep.
