Derrick Simpson, 38, of 308 E. Elm St., Tamaqua, was placed in the Schuylkill County prison in Pottsville on Oct. 30 after he reportedly assaulted two people in the borough.
Tamaqua police were called to a fight in progress in the 200 block of Brown Street at 12:38 p.m. They spoke with a man and his daughter, who both said Simpson had assaulted them. The man said Simpson pulled him out of his truck, which was parked in his daughter's driveway, slammed him to the ground and began choking him. The daughter jumped on Simpson's back in an effort to free her father. Simpson let go of the man, then threw the woman to the ground, injuring her face and knees.Neighbors witnessed the attack and provided statements.Simpson was video arraigned at the prison on charges of simple assault and disorderly conduct. Bail was set at $25,000 percentage. He was unable to post bail and remained in prison.
