Crime watch forms in West Penn

After months of debate, a citizens crime watch is finally being formed in West Penn Township.

The group's first meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Sept. 28, in the township municipal building, 27 Municipal Road, New Ringgold. That decision came following discussion last week by the township's board of supervisors.Supervisor Tony Prudenti asked whether or not any progress had been made in establishing a crime watch. It was stated by Supervisor Ted Bogosh that there was nothing new at that point in time. That answer didn't set well with Prudenti, who made his thoughts known."Do we want a crime watch or do we not want a crime watch?Prudenti said a handful of people at the meeting would agree to be a part of a crime watch."I'll take over the crime watch," Prudenti said.Supervisors' Chairman James Dean previously said the purpose of the crime watch is to "begin to look at ways to promoting safety in our various communities."In July, the board said that less than a handful of residents had stepped forward at that time to help form a crime watch group. The idea came to light in May after several residents voiced concerns to the board about crimes they say have occurred throughout the township.
