Rush-Ryan seniors

The Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens Inc. met Aug. 23 at the Ryan Township Fire Company with 56 members in attendance. A moment of silence was held in memory of Shirley Shellhammer.President Bill Morrison conducted the business session. The chaplain offered an inspirational reading titled "Sweet Summertime." Merle Andescavage was welcomed back to the group. Kathleen Valentine received well wishes for her birthday.Upcoming events include: Sept. 13, Rite Aid flu clinic: Sept. 27, STS Transportation informational session; Oct. 10, trip to Mohegan Sun in Wilkes-Barre; Oct. 11, Rite Aid representative will speak about medications and possible interactions; Oct. 24 trip to Country Cupboard in Lewisburg; Nov. 15 visit to Sights and Sounds in Lancaster to see the production of "Samson"; Dec. 6 Christmas party at Capriotti's.The group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of every month at the Ryan Township Fire Company in Barnesville. The next meeting will be held Sept. 13 and will include an indoor picnic.Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join.Tamaqua seniorsThe Tamaqua Senior Citizens met Sept. 1 at the Tamaqua YMCA with 52 members in attendance. President Melody Weicker conducted the business session.The group's chaplain provided the inspirational reading "Whispers."Madalene Heffelfinger was added to the sick list.Upcoming events include: flu shots administered by Rite Aid on Sept. 15, from 11:30 to noon; bus trip to the Dutch Way Kitchen in Myerstown on Sept. 19; trip to the Mohegan Sun in Wilkes-Barre on Oct. 17.Refreshments were served. Mary Linkevich, Tamaqua Borough's Director of Community, will be the guest speaker at the Sept. 8 meeting.The group is open to anyone 55 or older. Meetings are held at 1 p.m. Thursdays at the Tamaqua YMCA, 1201 E. Broad St.Bethany ECThe Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 and 10:30 a.m. worship services this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m.Activities for next week include: Tuesday, prayer time at 8:30 a.m.; Wednesday, Tamaqua Youth Ministry meets at 6:30 p.m.The monthly outreach services will be held Sept. 18.
