Blood drive

Miller-Keystone Blood Center's next Palmerton community blood drive will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesdayat the First United Church of Christ, next to Palmerton Borough Hall. It is being sponsored by friends in memory of Janet Snyder.Although Palmerton is fortunate to have a number of regular donors who appear for nearly every blood drive, more first-time and occasional donors are needed to meet the goal. Anyone over 17, weighing at least 110 pounds, in general good health, who has not donated since July 17 is eligible. First-time donors to Miller need photo ID, such as a driver's license. Registration for troops in the Palmerton area will be held at the Palmerton Area Library from 3-5 p.m. Sept. 22.Community mealA free community meal will be served from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesdayat St. John's United Church of Christ, 891 Columbia Ave., Palmerton. The menu will be pork chops, roasted vegetables, applesauce and homemade peach desserts. All are welcome for a meal and fellowship.Palmerton VFWThe Palmerton Memorial Post 7134 will meet at 7 p.m. Monday. The meeting will take place at the VFW Post, 2020 Forest Inn Road, Palmerton. The group welcomes veterans to join. They meet the second Monday of each month.Painting classA painting class will be offered at Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church, 500 Church Drive, Trachsville, from 6-9 p.m. Sept. 30. All items are provided.First UCCFirst United Church of Christ, 457 Delaware Ave., Palmerton will celebrate Patriotic Day at their worship service at 9 a.m. Sunday. Those attending are asked to wear red, white and blue if possible. Children are invited to bring their backpacks for a blessing as well as a special gift. All are invited to gather in the parlor after the service for coffee hour.The next council meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday. If you have an item you would like the council to discuss, submit it to either the office or council president before the meeting so it can be placed on the meeting agenda.Basket auctionThe Giant Basket Auction and Book Sale continues at the Palmerton Area Library, 402 Delaware Ave., through Saturday. The drawing will be Monday. Buy a library tote for $5 and fill it free one time in the basement book sale. Please use the side door.Meeting postponedThe scheduled tour of the Palmerton Jersey Central station by the Palmerton Area Historical Society has been postponed due to illness, and there will not be a replacement program. It is hoped the tour will be rescheduled next spring.The society will have its "Covered Bridge" stand at the Palmerton Community Festival. It will be located in the southeast section of Borough Park, near the Chain Bridge monument. Please stop by to ask historical questions, provide new information or say hello.
