Coaldale man sentenced to 20 years in prison for 2014 beating death

One of the two Coaldale men who beat a mutual friend to death with a shovel in January 2014 will spend at least the next 20 years in prison.

Schuylkill County Judge John Domalakes on Friday sentenced Stanley E. Kralik, 18, to a total of 20 to 40 years behind bars for his role in Corey M. Samuels’ murder.The sentence breaks down to 20 to 40 years for third degree murder, 20-33 years for criminal conspiracy and 12 to 20 years for robbery.The sentences are to be served concurrently.Kralik’s co-defendant, Oliver L. Trizarri, 23, is serving 15-30 years in prison.He pleaded guilty on Feb. 19 to conspiracy and third degree murder, getting a lighter sentence in exchange for testifying at Kralik’s trial.After listening to two days of testimony, it took a jury less than two hours on June 22 to convict Kralik.Each blamed the other for the murder.According the police reports and testimony, Kralik and Trizarri lured Samuels, 24 and a Marine, into the woods at the end of Miner Street in Coaldale on the night of January 20, 2014.There, they beat him to death with a shovel, and stole his cell phone, wallet, and rosary pendant.Samuels’ remains were found on Sept. 6, 2014, by a borough man who was looking for mushrooms with his children.Police recovered the pendant and shovel from Kralik’s house on Jan. 11, 2015.
