Woman who fled police given short prison term

A Lehighton woman who fled police during a traffic stop was sentenced to a short prison term on Monday in Carbon County court.

Amber Colleen Defiore, 23, was sentenced by President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II to serve one to one day less 24 months in prison on a charge of flight to avoid apprehension. She previously pleaded to the charge. She was arrested on March 15, 2015, by state police at Lehighton following a traffic stop along Skyline Drive in Franklin Township. When the vehicle stopped Defiore fled out the passenger side and ran despite commands from the trooper to stop. She was later apprehended.Defiore has been in prison since her arrest and is facing other criminal counts and a probation violation. It was noted she spent five months in prison and was released, and two months later she was arrested for the current charge.Defense Attorney Gregory Lee Mousseau, of the public defender's office, asked that she receive no credit for the time she has spent in jail because the other charges she is facing will result in even longer prison time.Nanovic also ordered her to pay a fine of $500, get a drug and alcohol evaluation, zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use, pay court costs of about $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole.
