A construction progress report for Jim Thorpe Area School District Energy Project shows that the initiative is on point and set to finish by the end of September.
The report, prepared by Maggie Befort, project supervisor at Honeywell International Inc., showed that just over a third of the project was currently complete."I think it's moving along pretty well, as expected," said board Vice President Pearl Downs-Sheckler.The contract with Honeywell was unanimously approved by the school board last April, with a down payment of $829,200."When our bond comes through, we will be reimbursed, and the bond will pay out the remainder," board secretary Lauren K. Kovac said.A representative from Honeywell previously assured the school board that the savings accrued from the upgrades would more than make up for the cost of the project. The project consists of upgrading the lighting and air conditioning, as well as replacing boilers, boiler control panels, walk-in refrigeration controls, and domestic hot water replacement. In addition, Honeywell's report lists building envelope improvements, which can include walls, floors, doors and other structures. The Energy Project began with the boiler upgrades at the high school last month, and are set to conclude with lighting upgrades at L.B. Morris at the end of next month.
