Students explore outdoors at camp

Blue Mountain Resort's Adventure Camp is hosting a group of Chinese students during the fifth week of the camp, which started on Monday.

The Chinese campers are between the ages of 8 and 14. The Chinese campers will be able to interact with the American campers during different activities."The purpose of the camp is to be outdoors, learn leadership and communication schools, and to expose the kids to new things," said camp director Joe Forte, "We want them to build their self-confidence, make friends and develop an appreciation for the outdoors."Monday's activities included arts and crafts, a climbing wall, zip lining, archery, kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, and more.The campers had the opportunity to sign up for different groups. Forte advised them to sign up withnew groups to make new friends.Team-building is a strong component of the group activities."I love the effect we have on the kids' lives. Many of the things they learn here, they do not get the chance to learn in school. Here they have a chance to get outside and work as a time. Here they get to connect with the outdoors," said Even Genay, activities director.Forte outlined several "guidelines to have fun and make friends, these included: Try everything, no negativity, commitment, team effort and positive attitudes.Adventure Camp rates and more information can be found at
