Defendants in pending cases entered guilty pleas in Carbon County court before Judge Steven R. Serfass on Thursday.

Shelly Lynn Filer, 45, of Palmerton, pleaded to one count of retail theft, as a felony three.She was arrested on April 1 by Palmerton police for an incident at the Rite Aid pharmacy on Delaware Avenue where she took $58.45 worth of merchandise.Serfass deferred sentencing and ordered the adult probation office to prepare a presentence investigation report. Filer, who is an inmate in the county prison, is facing a minimum prison term of between six and 12 months on the charge.Keishen Ahmeem Ricks, 20, of Lehighton, pleaded guilty to two counts of bad checks in two separate incidents, both occurring on Feb. 2.Lehighton police charged Ricks with giving a check to a Bruce Hartman and one to the borough of Lehighton for sewage and electrical services. Both were returned for insufficient funds.Ricks told Serfass he has already paid what he owed the borough.Serfass placed him on probation for a year on each count, running concurrently, and ordered restitution to Hartman for $280 and render a total of 100 hours of community service.Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
