The identities of the mother and daughter killed in a single-vehicle crash along Route 93 in Nesquehoning on Friday have been released.

Nesquehoning police officer Tim Wuttke said Sunday night that Ana Iris Luna Hernandez, 36, of Hazleton, was driving  a 2005 Chevrolet Equinox southbound with her daughter, Allejandra Luna, 18, also of Hazleton, just before 4 p.m.Witnesses said she attempted to pass another vehicle but she didn't have enough time to safely pass. Two children, ages 6 and 9, were also in the car.She swerved to cut in and lost control of the Equinox and went off the right side of Route 93, hitting a tree just past the Packer Township line. Both Ana Luna Hernandez and Allejandra Luna were pronounced dead at the scene. The two children in the back seat of the vehicle were flown to Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest.Route 93 was shut down in both directions while emergency crews worked to extricate the children and clear the scene. The road reopened just after 7 p.m.Police said that improper passing and speed were factors in the crash and that the driver only had a learner's permit and no licensed driver in the vehicle.
