Coroner: New Jersey man, 20, dies at Pennsylvania quarry

BANGOR, Pa. (AP) - Officials say a 20-year-old man has died at a popular and dangerous eastern Pennsylvania quarry.

Northampton County Coroner Zachary Lysek says Andrew Grennan, of Howell, New Jersey, was swimming at the abandoned quarry in Bangor with seven other young people Sunday when he went underwater and didn't resurface.Lysek says additional medical testing must be conducted before Grennan's cause of death is determined. The Morning Call reports the Seven Slopes of Slate quarry has long attracted visitors because of its translucent water and 100-foot-high cliffs. But discarded machinery underwater and shocking changes in temperature in the quarry can be dangerous to swimmers.
