Warrants issued for 2 Panther Valley men

Lansford police have issued warrants for two Panther Valley men.

Brian J. Butler, 56, of 33 Cortright St., Lansford, was charged with disarming a law enforcement officer (a felony), terroristic threats, resisting arrest, institutional vandalism, persistent disorderly conduct, public drunkenness and criminal mischief after an incident on April 22.According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by officer Shawn M. Nunnemacher, he was dispatched to a domestic incident at Butler's house, where a woman told him Butler was "out of control and smashing things."Nunnemacher asked for Butler, who ran out the back door and hid from police.A while later, a neighbor called the station and said Butler was back in his house, yelling and screaming and smashing things.Nunnemacher went back there, along with officer Joseph David, only to find Butler had again fled.The officers found him at the corner of Cortright and Abbott streets and told him he was under arrest.Butler, who smelled of alcohol, attempted to elbow David as the officers tried to handcuff him. Police found a knife on him, and he continued to yell, scream and curse as they led him to the cruiser.Once in the car, he kicked at the doors, damaging one. At the station, he kicked doors and other objects, and stamped his feet.He tried to grab David's gun and threatened to shoot him as the officers tried to restrain him.Police are also seeking Michael A. Leiby, 30, of 224 First St., Coaldale.Leiby was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia after an incident on June 19.According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by Nunnemacher, he saw Leiby walking down the street at about 10 a.m. June 19 and knew Coaldale police were looking for him.Leiby admitted to having a syringe with him. Nunnemacher found the syringe, and a plastic bag and packets contain a white powder that turned out to be heroin.Nunnemacher turned him over to Coaldale police.
