Debbie Sweeney was the guest speaker at the June 28 meeting of the Lewistown Valley Garden Club, which was held in the social hall of Zion Church of the Lewistown Valley.Sweeney's topic was "Repurposing," showing the many ways to create unique floral arrangements and craft projects by using unexpected items, such as tin cans, old floor boards, etc. Members were given a few objects to create their own arrangement, which they then took home.A planing session will be held onThursday to plan for the 70th anniversary dinner, which will be held on Oct. 25. Evelyn Adams won first place, with Carol Kohn in second and Mary Bridygham in third. The specimen for the month was any houseplant. Cindy Sabol's entry won first place, with Kohn and Bridygham earning second and third place respectively.The annual picnic will be held at 6 p.m. July 26 at Leiby's Grove, and a tour of the Schuylkill County Master Gardens will be held in August.Members discussed the Schuylkill County Fair, to be held Aug. 1-6 in Summit Station. President Melody Weicker conducted the business session.Ruthann Feane provided the inspirational reading "Open Your Heart to Kindness."Refreshments were served.This week's meeting will include a pizza party.
