"I was totally surprised," says Linda Hinton of when she saw most of her family at a Western Pocono Lions Club meeting,.

"It didn't register," she adds, thinking it wasn't her and her husband's 50th anniversary. That wasn't happening for another two years.Then she thought Jeff was getting an award at the Lions Club gathering.The surprise was that both Jeff and Linda were recognized as Lions of the Year by the club for all the service they have given since becoming members in October 2010, having been invited to join by then club member PDG Bob Argot.Club President Cindy Rodenbough enumerated some of their collective service in Lions as well as in the community, noting that they have both been very active in the following Lions Club projects: serving on the board of directors, Linda as Lion Tamer and Jeff as Tail Twister; mowing, planting and weeding of the island that the club takes care of in Brodheadsville; ringing the bell for the Salvation Army during the holidays; participating in the annual bowl-a-thon; working at the West End Fair booth; and Linda has also served on the committee for the scholarship program.In addition, they are both very active in their church, Salem-St. Paul's Lutheran in Kresgeville, singing in the choir and Linda is in charge of the church food stand at the West End Fair. In addition, Jeff is an advocate for Thrivent Financial at the church and they have both participated with projects for the Monroe County Chapter of Thrivent, helping with the annual audit and attending other member functions. They both are also members of the Pleasant Valley Choral Society. For pleasure they like to camp and kayak.The 20 family members that so surprised them included three of Jeff's four brothers, their three children and their grandchildren as well as Linda's two sisters.The surprise award included plaques for both of the Hintons.
