Activities planned at state parks

Three activities are planned for Tuscarora and Locust Lake state parks.

• On Saturday Naturalist Robin Tracey will lead a hike at Wolf Creek Falls starting at 10:30 a.m. It will provide a spectacular hike to the falls in Saint Clair. Participants will meet at the north end of the Walmart store off Route 61 in the Coal Creek Commerce Center complex. The hike is 7 miles and rated difficult. The hike is dog-friendly, but all pets must be leashed and get along well with people and other pets. Bring water and a lunch. Due to limited space, registration is required by contacting Tracey at 570-467-2506. Shine only.• The second event is also on Saturday and has conservation volunteer Dave McSurdy presenting a Native American storytelling program in the Locust Lake amphitheatre at 6 p.m. The program discusses stories of creation that will appeal to children and adults. The program will be held in the shelter near the camp store in case of rain. The program will be canceled in the event of thunder/lightning storms. It is open to the public but all children must be accompanied by an adult.• The third event is a Silver Creek Fire Tower/Reservoir hike onJuly 14 starting at 10:30 a.m. Participants will explore the mountain behind Locust Lake State Park and visit the fire tower and reservoir. The hike is 8 miles long and difficult. The pine stands and brush are a perfect habitat for birds and other wildlife. Participants will meet at the visitor parking lot at the park located before the contact station to carpool. Bring a lunch and your dog for a nice relaxing hike in the woods. All pets must be leashed and get along with people and other pets. Registration is required by contacting Tracey. Shine only.
