Man admits not paying his hotel bill

A Lansford man admitted in the Carbon County court on Tuesday that he failed to pay his hotel bill at a county business.

Richard Ellenbrook, 41, pleaded guilty to one count of theft of services before Judge Steven R. Serfass.Ellenbrook was arrested by Franklin Township police for an incident at the Country Inn & Suites, located along Route 209 near the entrance to the turnpike.Police said Ellenbrook rented a room at the hotel on Aug. 3, 2015, and was told at check-in that the hotel was smoke free and if he smoked in his room he would be charged $250 for the violation.Hotel management said Ellenbrook had smoked in the room, which he denied, and charged him the fee. He was also told the credit card he used to rent the room was not valid.When he checked out he refused to pay the $129.71 charge for the room, police alleged.Serfass placed him on probation for six months and ordered he pay restitution to the victim of the $129.71, render 25 hours of community service, pay court costs of about $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation.
