A Lehighton man who admitted driving under the influence with an infant in the vehicle was sentenced Tuesday afternoon to a county prison term. He was one of six defendants who previously pleaded guilty to be sentenced on DUI and related counts.

Zack Daniel Beddiges, 25, was sentenced by Judge Joseph J. Matika on charges of endangering the welfare of a child and driving under the influence.On the endangering count Matika sentenced him to serve 93 days to one year in jail and on the DUI charge 72 hours to 60 months in prison, with the terms running concurrently.Beddiges was stopped on Oct. 25, 2014, along Berwick Street by Beaver Meadows police. At the time of the stop he had a 1-year-old child in the vehicle. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.Beddiges said he was a recovering addict and has a pending DUI charge. Matika told him, “It’s time you get your house in order. You’re heading down a dangerous path.”On the DUI charge he was fined $1,500 and license suspended for 18 months. Additionally, he was ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation, zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use, and render a total of 100 hours of community service when paroled. He was given credit for 40 days spent in a inpatient rehab program.It was also noted he has a pending probation violation petition filed by the adult probation office.He began the jail term immediately. He was allowed to apply for work release privileges, but Matika noted with the pending probation violation petition that may not be granted by prison personnel.
