Donate blood Thursday, drive Pocono track to aid Red Cross

Pocono Raceway and the American Red Cross are inviting local blood donors to attend the 11th annual Pocono Raceway Blood Drive and Ride for the Red.

The blood drive will be held from 1 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Pocono Raceway located at Route 115, Long Pond.Presenting donors will be placed into a random drawing for four Terrace Club tickets and an invitation to driver introductions before the Pennsylvania 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup race on July 31 at Pocono Raceway.As the official national sponsor of the Red Cross summer campaign, which began Memorial Day weekend and runs through Labor Day weekend, Suburban Propane will help promote the need for blood and platelet donations and will encourage its employees and customers to give.Presenting blood donors will receive a $10 Visa Gift Card and an on-site Propane Grill-Out Lunch sponsored by Suburban Propane, while supplies last.For a $10 per lap donation, attendees can also drive a lap around Pocono Raceway in their own car. Blood donors who plan to drive, should plan to do so before they donate blood. Proceeds will benefit Red Cross disaster relief efforts in the Pocono Mountains, helping families prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters both big and small.Donors of all blood types are currently needed.
