Jim Thorpe Stay-At-Home Festival Saturday

The Jim Thorpe Stay-At-Home Festival will be from 3 to 11 p.m. Saturday at the Jim Thorpe Memorial Park, 101 E. 10th St., Jim Thorpe.

The rain date for the festival and fireworks is Sunday.There will be food, games, rides and something for everyone. Admission is free.The day kicks off with a three-on-three basketball tournament, beginning at noon.Anyone can participate.Call 570-952-5629 for more information.The festival opens with a ceremony at 3 p.m., followed by free children's games.Other events include a pie eating contest, watermelon seed contest, potato sack races, peanut scramble and water relay.Buster The Clown will be there from 3-8, amusement rides and carnival games from 3-10. There will be more rides this year including some adult rides.Also included in the festival is face painting by Robin Marchand, ice cream by Rob Shubeck.Live entertainment will be provided by The Jim Thorpe Neighborhood Bank. Acts include: 3-5 p.m., We Three (Country Music & Oldies Rock n Roll); 5:30-7:30, Serene Greene (Blue Grass); 8-10, Nightwind (Rock n' Roll).At 10 p.m., a fireworks display provided by The Mauch Chunk Trust Company will take place.This is an American Legion fundraising event, so it is requested that there are no outside food and drinks brought to the park. There will be adult beverages served by the American Legion Post 304 Home Association.Volunteers are needed and welcome. Call 570-778-8867 if interested.
