Competing in a type-writing test with representatives of the public schools of Lansford, Summit Hill, Tamaqua, Nesquehoning and Mauch Chunk, students of Lehighton High won first, second and third prizes, with five others receiving honorable mention.The contest, sponsored by the Underwood-Elliot-Fisher Company, Allentown, was held in the J.C. Bright Department Store, Lansford, on Saturday.Alma German, typing 51 words a minute, was awarded first prize, $10, while the second place prize, $7.50, was awarded to Emma Bock. The third place prize, $5, was won by Alberta Longacre. Those receiving honorable mention were Eva Kipp, Doris Bopck, Irene Hahn, Gladys Fronheiser and Harry Ace.The firm's representative, Barney Stapert, former world champion typist, was in charge of the contest.The winners are pupils of Miss Evelyn Jones of the local high school faculty.
