A Palmerton man was sentenced to a prison term for fleeing police and driving under the influence.

Garett Corie Anthony, 25, was sentenced by Judge Steven R. Serfass on Monday after previously pleading guilty to charges of flight to avoid apprehension, DUI and possession of drug paraphernalia.Anthony was arrested on Nov. 26, 2015, by Palmerton police. Police attempted to stop his vehicle for an equipment violation in the 300 block of Delaware Avenue. He fled a short distance, stopped his vehicle and then fled on foot. He was eventually caught. He was charged with DUI and the flight charges. The paraphernalia charge was also part of the same incident when it was found in the vehicle.Serfass sentenced him to serve one to one day less 24 months on the flight to avoid charge and five days to six months on the DUI count, with the terms running concurrently. He was also fined $300 and one year license suspension for the DUI and ordered to render a total of 175 hours of community service when released on parole.On the possession count he was placed on probation for a year, consecutive to the other counts.He will begin the jail term on July 1 at 4 p.m. and serve it on consecutive weekends.
