A makeshift kangaroo court was held Saturday as part of the Lehighton's 150th Celebration.

The court was in front of the Pfc. Houser Building and performed by Hillbilly Degree Clan No. 9 out of Allentown.At that day's hearing somebody was charged with a crime and tried with muggery guggery with attempt to gawk."This was a more heinous crime because the outhouse was occupied," said Roy Beaner, who played judge Ron Neimeyer.Members of Clan 9 also made up a jury that would decide if Maynard McCoy, played by Bob Fetters, would be charged with "molesting" Hattie Hatfield, played by Arthur Kline.Also in the court were Ernest Daubenspeck, who played the sheriff; Bob Heimbecker and his brother Don, who played the district attorney and defense attorney, respectfully. There were also several other members of the clan who had parts in the court.Linda Daubenspeck, wife of Ernest, said, "The whole thing was fun, good nature, I really liked the sidebars. I came here to support my local sheriff."Clan No. 9 also does major fundraising efforts for the Shriners Hospital for Children in Philadelphia. The clan does things such as clambakes and golf tournaments to raise money.So far, over 31 years they've raised more than $180,000 and will raise about $8,000 each year.
