'13 hours' showing in Mahoning

"13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi" will be shown during a one-time only free showing at 6 p.m. Thursday at Mahoning Valley Cinema.

The event is being hosted by the Lehighton 9/12 Project.The movie is based on a true incident in the Middle East.During an attack on a U.S. compound in Libya, a security team struggles to make sense out of the chaos.Sandy Dellicker, president of the Lehighton 9/12 project, said seating is limited to 150 people. Viewing is open to the public.The film was released on Jan. 15 by Paramount Pictures. It was a financial success, grossing over $69 million worldwide.Among the survivors of the Benghazi attack was Kris "Tanto" Paronto, a military veteran and U.S. security contractor.Dellicker said Paronto will be making a local appearance, speaking at Penn's Peak in Jim Thorpe on Nov. 6. His visit is being coordinated by the Lehighton 9/12 Project.Paronto was part of the CIA annex security team that responded to the terrorist attack on the US Special Mission in Benghazi, Libya, Sept. 11, 2012, helping to save over 20 lives while fighting off terrorists from the CIA Annex for over 13 hours.Paronto's story is told "13 Hours," which is also a book written by Mitchell Zuckoff and his five surviving annex security team members.
