Towamensing tops Franklin Twp.

Towamensing and Franklin Township both entered into its Keystone Senior Babe Ruth contest at opposite ends of the success spectrum.

While both programs are about midway through the regular season, Towamensing has lost only two games. Franklin, on the other hand, has only won two. That success pattern held true Tuesday night at Christman Field, as the Joe's hot offense proved too much for the hosts, as they belted out 12 hits en route to a 10-3 victory.Four different players collected a pair of hits for the winners, as Ben Weber, Cody Wallace, Nate Sterner and Ian Silfies led the way for Towamensing (7-2-1)."Tonight, I think the difference was our bats," Towamensing head coach Brian Taschler said."We put the ball in play, and that puts the defense back on their heels and makes them come up with plays."The Joe's did exactly that in nearly every inning, as they scored in all but two frames. They struck first in the top of the second when Ben Weber singled with one out, and eventually scored on Cody Wallace's RBI single. The next inning, Sterner and Silfies led off with a single and double, respectively, before Brody Boehler reached on an error and scored Sterner. Weber then followed with an RBI single for a 3-0 lead."The mistakes really came back and got us today," Franklin head coach Dirk Pompa said. "Too many errors, and you're just not going to win games when you're making mistakes like that."The Hurricanes (2-6) got one run back in the bottom of the third on Christian Valdez's RBI single, but the winners responded with more in the fourth.Sal Melo's leadoff double started the session, while Silfies added an RBI single. Sterner then scored on a wild pitch and Zach Silfies pounded an RBI double.Justin Mahmde singled for the 'Canes in the bottom of the fourth and scored on a wild pitch, only to see Towamensing plate three more runs in the top of the fifth for a 9-2 lead, which proved to be more than enough."We just haven't really been hitting the ball well this season and tonight, there were definitely plays that should have been made," Pompa said. "Against a good team like these guys, I knew we had to play better than we did in order to have a chance."Coach Taschler commended pitcher Brody Boehler, who threw a complete game and allowed just four hits. "He's a young pitcher, and he did a really nice job for us tonight, throwing strikes and ground balls."EVERYBODY HITS ... For Towamensing, Cody Wallace (two RBIs, double), Nate Sterner (two RBIs), Ian Silfies (RBI, double) and Ben Weber (RBI) each had two hits apiece. Meanwhile, Jake Taschler, Zach Silfies and Melo all added doubles, while Owen Miller added a late RBI single.FRANKLIN FACTORS ... Chris Valdez proved to be a tough out, as he led the way with two hits and an RBI.
