First Niagara Bank has told its customers the bank will be acquired by KeyCorp.
“Key is one of the nation’s largest banks, and at First Niagara, we like to think of ourselves as one of the most community minded. Although, with hundreds of branches across four states, we’re not so small ourselves,” First Niagara said on its website. The merger is expected to be complete during the third quarter of this year. Customer account conversion will begin shortly after that.“You can expect it to be business as usual at First Niagara and at your local branch. Customers should experience no changes to day-to-day banking,” according to the website. However, the bank said, “As part of the customary regulatory approval, eventually, some branches may change hands. Both Key and First Niagara are working closely with the United States Department of Justice regarding divestiture plans, as it directs both the process and timing.”Like First Niagara, KeyCorp has a strong commitment to the communities in which it operates, and following the completion of the transaction, we are both working hard to ensure a smooth transition for all First Niagara customers. The bank said most account numbers will remain the same. Terms of loans will remain the same.First Niagara has branches in Lehighton, Palmerton, Kresgeville, Slatington, Lansford and Walnutport.
